(SLI) was formed in 1976 to provide manufacturers and clinicians with improved assay components to enable the production of more sensitive and accurate diagnostic tests. A 100% family-owned company, SLI remains committed to this goal while building the company into an international presence with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in Santee, California and Tecate, Mexico. To this end, Tom Cantor, president, founder and CEO, together with a staff of 450 employees, implement the high standards of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485, together with Scantibodies’ own quality manufacturing processes. SLI is known for its unique, long-standing ability to solve diagnostic dilemmas by producing a custom-designed product to facilitate a solution to a client’s unique production challenges.

From antigens to antibodies, controls to calibrators, and raw materials to finished kits, SLI produces a wide array of products for today’s diagnostic community. Leading the way is Scantibodies’ Heterophilic Blocking Reagent, HBR, which is giving labs and patients peace of mind by blocking false positive test results. Scantibodies’ controls and calibrators (liquid and lyophilized) ensure the accurate performance of diagnostic tests throughout the world. For more than 20 years, SLI has provided 150 types of human and animal sera, in small to 1,000 liter lots, including lipid stripped and high affinity purified sera.

Scantibodies’ award winning OEM department manufactures over 2 million pregnancy test kits and family planning products monthly under the name of “First Response” and “Answer”. In 2002, SLI transferred this manufacturing operation to a new facility in Tecate, Mexico. In 2006, Scantibodies is completing a new 125,000 square foot facility in Tecate’s beautiful El Bajio Industrial Park, which will house this expanding operation and new “maquiladora” (OEM Mexico) business with emphasis on skilled assembly.

SLI developed the first 3rd generation assay for Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) and opened a Clinical Lab in the year 2000, to offer its unique testing services with the PTH Accuratio? Panel. Scantibodies has a global network of distributors and subsidiary offices in Tokyo, Japan and Paris, France to help manage SLI products in the Asian and European theatres.

With over 1600 different products produced over three decades, SLI can say that virtually every clinical laboratory in the world has some component of its tests provided by Scantibodies. Ongoing research is designed to ensure the accuracy of all existing assays and the role of the 1-84 PTH/7-84 PTH Accuratio, with the goal of facilitating timely therapeutic interventions and prolonging patient quality of life.

The Man and His Vision
Some thirty years ago, a 25-year old man and his wife had a vision for helping people by integrating biochemistry into diagnostic products with a goal of stopping the debilitating course of disease. With a 100 year old, single car garage in San Diego, CA, and only $130 in their pockets, Tom and Cheryl Cantor determined to put their biochemistry and international studies educations into practical use by developing and manufacturing medical tests and their critical components for other manufacturers.
